Throughout 1 Timothy, Paul has often alluded to the fact that the church is the family of God. In this passage, we see what that means for how we treat one another. The answer is summarized in three words: respect, correct and protect.
Paul charges Timothy to guard the deposit entrusted to him. We consider what we learn from the image of the gospel as a deposit, and what is entailed in our call to guard it.
