Who Was Mary?

The Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas Missions® was named for the woman who had led Baptist women of Texas to pray for and give to missions efforts in Texas. WMU of Texas President, 1906-1931 Mary Hill Davis was born in Greenville, Georgia, and came to Texas as a small child in 1870 when her family moved from Tennessee to Dallas. At age 20, she married F.S. Davis, a physician. They had one son, Raymond, also a physician and surgeon. Mary's heart for missions and people was evident in everything she did. She believed Texas was a vast mission field, and that immigrants needed to know Jesus just as much as citizens. Not only did she stir women to give and pray for missions (giving increased by $1.2 million dollars during her presidency), but she also encouraged leaders to take care of orphans, schools in Texas, as well as China, and retired pastors living in poverty. Mary Hill Davis passed away on November 24, 1934, and during a memorial service held at the WMU Convention of Houston in 1935, the State Missions Offering was re-named the Mary HIll Davis Offering®. Today, Mary's remarkable leadership continues to inspire Texas Baptists to give, pray, and serve.

One of the beautiful joys we experience and having a personal relationship with God is the opportunity to serve Him by serving his people. As the population continues to grow here in Texas. There are many who need to be introduced to Jesus Christ. Matthew 28 calls us to make disciples who make disciples, and I believe we can do this better together. Our Kingdom impact across Texas is strengthened through partnership, through the Mary Hill Davis Offering. You empower Missionaries of all ages to serve. Women's Build Project

In 2022, Buckner Children and Family Services and WMU of Texas partnered together to build a home for a family in Peñitas, Texas. Since 2010, countless women volunteers have traveled to South Texas to offer hope, build relationships and share Jesus. The Zuniga family started going to the Buckner Peñitas Family Hope Center in 2019 and quickly got involved in participating in classes, such as Marvelous Mothers, Fatherhood, Faith, and Finance and Work Life. Their dedication, work ethic, and commitment made them eligible to receive a new home. The family was living in a small mobile home before qualifying for a new 3-bedroom, one-bath home.

Special Friends Retreat

Often our special needs campers feel overlooked or struggle to find a place where they are truly loved and accepted. The Special Friends Retreat changes that. It's a space where they can encounter God on their level, surrounded by friends who understand and appreciate them. Hispanic Ministries Summer Program
