1 Corinthians

Broken and Beautiful

Generous Living

November 26, 2023 • Pastor Nathan Naoumi • 1 Corinthians 16:1–4

Paul closes out the book of 1 Corinthians with one final plea to the church. Live generous! Because of the famine in Judea, Paul is continuing to encourage the church in Corinth to walk alongside another church to help them financially as they struggle to survive. In his call to live generous, he gives steps on how to make biblical generosity part of your life. Let’s lean in.

Crazy Church

November 19, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 14:20–40

Paul provides a blueprint for the Corinthian church on how to conduct worship services with purpose and order. Emphasizing the importance of maturity in understanding spiritual matters, Paul encourages the Corinthians to eagerly pursue spiritual gifts, especially those that contribute to the edification of the entire church. This passage also touches on the role of women in the church, prompting thoughtful reflection on cultural context and the broader biblical principles governing gender roles within the body of Christ.

Spiritual Gifts

November 12, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 12:1–12

Spiritual gifts are grace gifts (in the areas of speaking and serving) that the Holy Spirit gives to all Christians. These gifts are intended to build up and strengthen the church when used under the lordship of Jesus. Paul gives us a lesson on how the Holy Spirit operates through our giftings.

Temptation

November 5, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 10:1–13

A reoccurring theme we see the Apostle Paul address in his first letter to the Corinthians is the temptation we all have to commit sin. In this week’s Scripture text we find some of the most instructive and compelling verses about this important subject that we all deal with on a daily basis.

The Power of Love

October 29, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 13

Whether you’ve been in church for a long time or have never stepped foot into one, you’re probably familiar with Paul’s love chapter.  In chapter 13 Paul gives a detailed description of what gospel love looks like. We can have spiritual gifts, knowledge, powerful actions, and incredible generosity but unless it is motivated by love, and empowered by Christ’s transforming love, it’s useless.

Loved People Love People

October 22, 2023 • Pastor Rodney Julian • 1 Corinthians 9

Paul continues his thoughts on the importance of love and service over rules and regulations. He did so by illustrating from his own life the importance of serving others. If Paul was willing to give up comforts for the sake of another person, then the Corinthian Christians must learn that loved people love people.

Single and Satisfied

October 15, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 7:29–35, 1 Corinthians 7:7–8

The Apostle Paul, writer of the New Testament letters to the Corinthian church, felt called by God to lead a single life. He was a big proponent of the spiritual benefits of singleness (being unmarried). The truth is that both married and single people are valuable to God and to the church. God has gifted us and called us in various ways (and sometimes in various seasons) when it comes to this subject. This week’s sermon text helps us understand how the church should honor, include, and intentionally love those who are single.

God Made Us. God Owns Us.

October 8, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 6:12–20

This week we examine the subject of human sexuality and the dangers of sexual immorality. And, as with any aspect or area of life, we want to approach this issue biblically. It’s crucial to hear and understand God’s perspective on this subject. When we don’t follow Scripture’s guidance in this area, we will inevitably suffer pain and usually also cause pain and heartbreak to others. Additionally, we may miss out on the real fulfillment and joy that God intends for us to experience.

How to Deal with Dysfunction

October 1, 2023 • Pastor Nathan Naoumi • 1 Corinthians 5

Dysfunction happens not only in the home, but also in workplaces, and even churches! Paul combats a major situation that has been made public in the church of Corinth. Sexual immorality is being praised rather than condemned, and so Paul gives his defense as to why the people of God should put a stop to sin rather than entertain it.

How Those Outside the Church Should View People Inside the Church

September 17, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 4:1–13

As we examine ourselves as Jesus followers, and as an “on-looking world” peers inside of the church through the lens of our lives—what do they see? This week’s message in our 1 Corinthians sermon series will explore (from a scriptural perspective) the idea of how the world around us should see/perceive the church.

Who Do You Belong To?

Pastor Eric Capaci • 1 Corinthians 3

As we continue in our series through 1 Corinthians, we begin to see some of the core issues that are plaguing the church of Corinth. Paul continues to warn against the celebrities whom worldly wisdom had created in the church and also challenges us to live a life that is influenced by Spirit of God rather than the flesh who wages war against us.

Deep Waters!

September 3, 2023 • Pastor Bryndan Loritts • 1 Corinthians 2:6–16

As we continue our series through 1 Corinthians, Paul continues make a distinction between godly wisdom and worldly wisdom. Plainly put, true wisdom is only found in a personal relationship with Jesus and when we receive Jesus, we are given the Holy Spirit. Paul says that we need God’s Spirit if we are to understand the gospel, if we are to have the message of the gospel, and if we are to make the right response to the gospel.

Living with a Purpose

August 27, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 1:18—2:5

Living every day of our lives with true purpose, focused ambition and proper motivation is crucial to our mental, physical, and spiritual health. In this week’s sermon we will see what it looks like to live our lives with a supremely Gospel-centered purpose and a wisdom that can only come from knowing God.

Positively Praising

August 20, 2023 • Pastor Brett Capaci • 1 Corinthians 1:1–17

This week we begin a sermon series in the book of 1 Corinthians. The Apostle Paul writes this letter to encourage and instruct the New Testament Church at Corinth. This was a church (as we’ll see as the weeks of the series go by) that was filled with problems and was dealing with some very tough issues. They were a broken people, and yet because of the Gospel, the grace of Jesus, these Corinthians were also a beautiful people. This is a reminder to us that the Church today (with all its imperfections) is still the beautiful bride of Christ.
