MAR 1 - Reed

Isaiah 36:6, Isaiah 58:5, Matthew 12:20, Isaiah 42:3, Luke 7:24

Reeds are a natural element that often go unnoticed. However, with all the protected wetlands in every community, reeds are typically not difficult to find. Take a walk to your nearest wetlands to engage in some creation meditation. You might ask, what exactly is a reed? There are a variety of kinds of reeds, but generally many tall, hollow-stemmed, grass-like plants that grow in wetlands and marshes are considered reeds. Cattails are called reeds by some people, but are not technically a part of the reed family. However, where you see cattails, reeds are close-by.

MAR 24 - Mourning Dove

Mark 1:10, Matthew 10:16, Leviticus 5:7, Isaiah 38:14, Song of Songs 2:12

Spring is the perfect time to consider birds for creation meditation, especially in view of their migration back to colder climates and the ubiquitous sounds of their mating calls. Mourning Doves can be found almost everywhere in North America. They are one of the most plentiful of birds on our continent and one of the most prolific birds in the Scriptures, which make them a great subject for meditation. Mourning Doves also are easily identifiable both by sight and by sound. Many people mistake their mournful cooing for owls. See the link below to learn their sounds and to be able to identify them by sight. You will likely find, as I have, that they are everywhere you go. Even if I do not see them, I hear them cooing everywhere. Doves have become one of my favorite animals that regularly prompts me to meditate upon our Lord. *One important fact to understand about doves is that they are in the same family as pigeons. There is little difference between the two birds other than size and appearance. Doves are the smaller of the two family members. **The example sounds of the mourning dove in the audio provided is from the link below. Use the weblink below from http://allaboutbirds.org to learn to identify all the mourning dove's sounds.

MAR 29 - Blue Sky

Ezekiel 1:22–26, Ezekiel 10:1, Psalm 19:1–5, Exodus 24:9–11

Take a moment, more than a moment, to look up! Gazing at the sky, even if just briefly getting lost in wonder of the gorgeous blue expanse above your head, is worth every second. Too often we ignore opportunities to enjoy beauty. We prefer looking down at the blue light emanating from the screen in our hands to the sapphire sky above our heads. Don't miss the opportunities today, this week, this month to enjoy and to ponder the beautiful blue sky God has created.
