AUGUST 6 - Rock

RECREATION: rock climbing, hiking RELATED WORDS: boulder, cliff

Isaiah 26:4, Deuteronomy 32:3–4, 2 Samuel 22, Psalm 27:5, Psalm 62:1–8

There is nothing quite like standing on solid rock. Rocks can feel sure, steady, immovable. I am greatly appreciative of the experiences of finding a good foothold when climbing up cliffs. I am thankful for solid places to plant my feet to rest for a moment while rock climbing. I love how good it feels to reach up and grab hold of an obvious jut that I can trust with my hands. Even more importantly, I often pray that in the midst of life's hardships and difficulties that believers might tangibly feel the Lord Christ as the solid rock beneath their feet. So, go find a rock outcropping, a boulder, or some other rocks to stand on and meditate upon what God has communicated through rocks.

AUGUST 20 - Ants

Proverbs 30:24–25, Proverbs 6:6–11, Ephesians 2:10, 1 Corinthians 15:58

Go find an anthill in your backyard. Go walk in the grass or along a path with your eyes combing the ground for an ant. Take some time to just observe these fascinating creatures. Following an ant to see where it goes and what it does is extremely interesting. Additionally, taking some time to closely observe God's creation in this way will help you slow down for a moment and relax. Ants are one of God's creatures that the Bible specifically calls lazy people to meditate upon in Proverbs 6:6. I'm not calling anybody lazy, I think it is worthwhile for everyone to "go to the ant . . . [and] consider her ways."
