The gift of salvation is so rich and so vast, that the human mind can scarcely even conceive of it. Life without end, perfect fellowship with God, sin and corruption a distant memory; and all of these marvelous promises given in the Scriptures by the prophets so that we may meditate upon them and find hope and encouragement. But what did the prophets understand about these things? The prophets made careful searches and inquiries into this salvation. They were not merely passive instruments in delivering God’s Word, but were intensely interested in the meaning of the message. They sought to know the time of its fruition, and through whom this wonderful work would come. In the fullness of time these details became clear as Jesus was born, fulfilled His mission, and then rose from the dead, demonstrating that the Father accepted His finished work. But why not simply perform the work, and then announce what had been done? Because telling the end from the beginning affirms the greatness of God’s power. Now, what will you do with what you know?
