This weekend is The Weekend for us as Jesus-followers as we follow Jesus to his death - execution on the cross at the hands of Empire - and on into resurrection.
We know this Easter story well, and yet, for this moment in which we live, how do we make sense of the suffering in our lives and our world? There is hope and joy to be received here, especially now! Invite a friend to join us online or in person and we will see you in the shadows of Friday night and in the glorious light of Resurrection Sunday!
PALM SUNDAY
April 10, 2022 • Bishop Shelley Wee • Luke 19:28–40
In the week ahead, Jesus will put our origin story of Original Blessing to the test, and into action as he makes his way to the cross and the empty tomb beyond it. It begins with Palm Sunday as we join the crowds in Jerusalem by waving our own palm branches and daring to hope in this Jesus, as we hear a sermon from ELCA Bishop Shelley Bryan Wee.
TRACING A THREAD OF BLESSING
April 3, 2022 • Sara Wolbrecht
This Sunday, in our journey through the theme of Blessing & Curse, we'll see how the story of God's people unfolds after Eve and Adam leave the Garden - tracing it all the way to Jesus' life and ministry! What do God's people do with the blessing God has given them? How do we see this echo into our lives today (or not!)? Don't miss this vital piece in our Lenten conversation leading us to Jesus' cross and resurrection, as we're together reclaiming our Original Blessing.
PEDER'S STORY
March 27, 2022 • Peder Brakke
This Sunday we hear a Salt House Story from one of our own community members. One of our core practices at Salt House is valuing one another's stories. Join us as we hear Peder's story of chasing blessing.
CURSES!
March 20, 2022 • Ryan Marsh • Genesis 2, Genesis 3
Curses! If we're talking about blessing, we also got to talk about the flip side, because a lot of times life doesn't feel very 'blessed'. The struggle is real. Our origin story includes that, too. This Sunday, let's look at the ancient curse that we all experience as we make our way to the cross and continue our exploration of original blessing.
BLESSING IN GENESIS
March 13, 2022 • Zach Herzog • John 10:7–10, Genesis 1
Last week, Pastor Sara invited us to reimagine our origin story in the Bible not as “original sin” but as “original blessing.” This week, Intern Pastor Zach will take us through the Ancient Near East poetry of Genesis 1 as we consider God’s original blessing for creation.
ORIGINAL BLESSING
March 6, 2022 • Sara Wolbrecht • Matthew 5:1–11
As we begin the season of Lent, this 40 day march toward Jesus' death and resurrection, we recognize the necessity for examining who God is and who we are. Today, Pastor Sara examines the original blessing we receive as good and worthy of love and juxtaposes this against the doctrine of original sin.
Origin Story - Series Trailer
March 13, 2022 • Sara Wolbrecht • Genesis 1, Genesis 2
LENT 2022 AT SALT HOUSE
SERIES: ORIGIN STORY
Origin stories are a thing. Look at all the superhero origin stories out there. These stories give context to why a person is they way they are and why they live the way they do.
As Christians, we have a shared origin story. And that story is often misunderstood as a story of "original sin." For this season at Salt House, we're going back to the very beginning and looking at our "original blessing." For you are loved and you are good.
Join us on Sundays as we explore our original blessing, our origin story!
