The Holy Spirit - Week 3

March 1, 2020 • Pastor Denny Curran

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” - Acts 2:4 NIV

We need an experience with the Holy Spirit. The reason why we are doing a Holy Spirit series is because we all come from different backgrounds. Everyone has their own “normal,” but “normal” is different from someone else’s normal. This happens because we were all raised differently. Our current series, “Guide for the Journey,” provides teaching about the Holy Spirit us all to get on the same page. In the Bible, we learn that the Jewish tradition has 7 festivals / holidays in a year to celebrate. This week, we learned about three of these holidays. The Passover Celebration represents our salvation. The Story of Jesus is the redemption of our sins. Next, we talk about the Celebration of Pentecost. Pentecost was a celebration of the first harvest where we receive the Holy Spirit. The day of Pentecost gave us the power to make a difference in our world. Finally, we learned about the Celebration of Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was the last harvest of the year. As we prepare for the second coming of Christ, we recognize that the we are in the final harvest. How can we best share Christ with our friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc? We need the Holy Spirit to be at work in our lives.

Join us next Saturday and Sunday as teacher, Tim Enloe, provide teachings that encourage spiritual breakthrough in our individual lives and our church family. These services are intended to grow you in deeper relationship with the person of the Holy Spirit. You’re invited to to join us for a special service on Saturday, March 7th at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you at our regular times on Sunday, March 8th (8am, 9:30am, & 11am) as Pastor Tim continues his teaching. Lastly, join us at our monthly worship & prayer service at 6pm as the Enloe’s lead us in praying for individual needs.

March 15, 2020 • Pastor Denny Curran

FULL ONLINE SERVICE “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” -Acts 2:4 This week, we end our current series on the Holy Spirit as we discuss the third person of the Trinity. Jesus commanded His disciples to be filled with the Holy Spirit! Some may still be asking the question, WHY do I need the Holy Spirit? In this week’s message, we learn that the Holy Spirit empowers us to live righteously! When we are led by the Spirit, things get exciting! Next, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live supernaturally! You can be a christian and live your life “naturally,” but it’s not God’s plan for you! Jesus lived a supernatural life - operating out of healing, signs and wonders, and miracles. John 14:12 - 14 says “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it!.” We are called to do EVEN MORE. What is God calling you to? What is the MORE in your life? Your marriage can be saved! Your relationships can be mended! Your body can be healed! Your chains of addiction can be broken! Your LIFE can be CHANGED by the power of the Holy Spirit. Finally, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live on mission! At River of Life Church, we recognize that we are here to make a difference and to bring light into our world. We challenge you to pursue all that God has for you. It’s an incredible journey! A Teaching on the Holy Spirit (Sunday Morning) - Tim Enloe

March 8, 2020 • Guest Speaker Tim Enloe

“Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we know the things freely given to us by God.” - 1 Cor. 2:9 - 14 We have the Spirt of God living inside of us from the moment we are saved. If you’ve given your life to Jesus, the Holy Spirit LIVES inside of you. Our subject this weekend is praying in tongues. There are many misunderstandings or concerns about this gift. In this message, Pastor Tim leads a conversation (part 2 - see 1st message from 03.07.20) about the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. There are two types of tongues; personal tongue and public tongue. Personal tongues is praying in the spirit. It is for every christian. If you’re a christian, God has designed the richness and ability to pray out of the spirit bucket. This also encourages the individual who’s praying. It doesn’t require attention - it’s simply between you and the Lord. Public tongue (utterance) is designed to build up the church as a whole. It requires an interpretation. Praying in tongues is not intellectually fulfilling; it’s spiritually fulfilling. When we pray in tongues, it is perfect prayer and vitally important. We can lean in and pray in the wisdom of God. Finally, praying in tongues trains our will and flesh to yield to the Holy Spirit. Spiritual tongues is NOT the biggest part of your spiritual life, salvation is. We can grow in a deeper relationship with Christ by practicing the gift of speaking in tongues.
