Imitating Our Father

Ephesians 5:1-14

June 22, 2014 • Pastor John Miller

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God…For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”—Ephesians 5:1-14

It is most important to take note that the attributes of God include His sacrificial kind and forgiving love. The Lord gives His mercy and grace to His children. His intention is that believers who have attained such love from our Father would give as He gives. Christians may show love, forgiveness, mercy and grace by walking in this love daily while avoiding immorality, covetousness and all uncleanliness. Living this pattern of life emulates and follows God’s purpose and holy radiant essence.

Pastor John Miller continues our study in the book of Ephesians with a message titled “Imitating Our Father” using Ephesians 5:1-14 as the scripture reference.
