Jesus tells the pharisees that if they want to throw a party, they should invite the people who can't repay them. This was how the master did it in the kingdom of God. The problem is that accepting the invitation into the kingdom meant admitting you had nothing to offer the master.

We celebrate the birth of Jesus so often that we end up missing the greatest miracle in Scripture–that the Son of God took on flesh in the person of Jesus. So what do we believe about this birth?
