Hanukkah is often known as the 'festival of lights,' or sometimes 'the miracle of the oil.' But the story of Hanukkah is about so much more than olive oil.
The core of the Hanukkah story is rededication. For the Jews during the Maccabee rebellion, it was about rededicating the Temple. For us today, Hanukkah is an opportunity for us to remember the miracles that God did in the past in those days, at this time, and remember that God is still doing miracles in our days at this time! And it's an opportunity for us to rededicate ourselves to God's calling in our lives, which is to be a light to the world.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:5)
