Jericho Walls

Current Sermon Series

All of Our Fears

May 15, 2022 • Chris Heller

This message will begin with the life, calling, and mission of Joshua on his conquest towards one of the most miraculous victories in all of our sacred text! But what does Jericho have to do with what we’re facing in today’s culture? We are not called to conquest. Our battles are not against flesh and blood. We have been commissioned by Jesus, the One who fulfilled the Law, 'to love God, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.' We will consider what walls all of our fears may have built up that now need to come down so the light of God’s wondrous love can come bursting through!

Wall of Fear

May 22, 2022 • Chris Heller

It is often thought that people who struggle with anxiety lack courage. However, many of God’s most courageous servants first responded to His call with fear, excuses, and anxieties that haunted their thinking. Watch now as we learn from Joshua’s own battle with fear and anxiety, that just may have inspired one of the greatest verses in all of scripture, and let’s learn some tools along the way to be courageous in spite of our fears!

Wall of Generational Sin

May 29, 2022 • Chris Heller

There is a new wall to knock down -- the wall of generational sin. The term ‘generational sin’ is often used as a reference to the weaknesses or tendencies that are handed down through the generations from parents or members of our family. Just like physical attributes are passed down, behavioral attributes and attitudes can be passed down as well. Why do certain sins seem to run in families? Can these patterns be stopped? What does the Bible say?

Wall of Bondage

June 5, 2022 • Chris Heller

Wounds have left scars, circumstances have left pain, and the walls around Rahab have left very few options. So, when she spots an opportunity to break free from the bondage of her circumstances, she takes drastic measures. She makes a plan, takes a risk, and executes her plan in faith that this will lead to her freedom from the walls that surround her.

Wall of Lost Influence

June 19, 2022 • Chris Heller

This week we continue in our Jericho Walls series and learn what it means to be an influencer. We’ll learn about some tools for dads on how to lead by following. If you want to be a spiritual influencer, this is a message for you.

Wall of Disregard

June 26, 2022 • Chris Heller

Do you have a good memory? Maybe you find you easily forget things, whether it be a person’s name, a scheduled appointment, or even something simple like where you put your keys. We can all be forgetful. It’s one thing to forget something, but it’s a very different matter to disregard something. There is a significant command God issues to His people to ensure that they will not only not forget what He has done, but that they will not disregard what He has done, either.

Wall of Shame

July 17, 2022 • Chris Heller

The Israelites are now standing in the Promised Land, having just crossed the Jordan. What will God demand of them next? Join us as we see both why and how God rolls away the reproach of Egypt they had been carrying from their past. Should be an encouraging week for anyone who struggles with feelings of shame and guilt.

Wall of Jericho

July 24, 2022 • Chris Heller

The midway point of the summer series, Jericho Walls, has finally arrived at Joshua chapter 6. This week, we will march alongside Joshua as he leads God’s people around the insurmountable city walls of Jericho. We will gain 7 valuable lessons from this 7-day march to use during those times in our lives when we face something we feel is insurmountable. Let’s plan to grow spiritually from one of the most epic accounts of scripture!

Wall of Deception

July 31, 2022 • Chris Heller

Jericho has fallen! And this message we will see God’s people move on from their great victory at Jericho to the small city of Ai. One would think, after the miraculous victory at Jericho, nothing now could stand in their way. Yet, it seems that someone did something ‘deceptively’ amidst the fallen walls of Jericho that God did not miss, nor will allow to go unexposed. We will witness the ripple effects of deception and search the scriptures to gain insight into how we can avoid the snare of a dishonest life.

Wall of Vengeance

August 7, 2022 • Chris Heller

How will Israel survive now that Ai and surrounding enemy armies no longer fear them? We will witness Yahweh’s vengeance on Ai and gain insight into why we are now told throughout the New Testament to not take vengeance, but leave it for the Lord. If you struggle to forgive people, this will prayerfully be an encouraging and inspiring week of freedom from grudges!

Wall of Folly

August 14, 2022 • Chris Heller

This message will encounter a chain reaction of both of the victories at Jericho and Ai. As the news continues to spread throughout the Canaanite cities that the Israelites have a conquering God, the enemies of Israel resort to ‘wiley ways’ in hopes they can crack the impenetrable force that is God’s people. Have you ever been scammed, fooled, misled, even bamboozled? It’s so frustrating, and it can be very damaging. Join us this week as we look to increase our discernment, wisdom, and watchfulness in order to avoid the snare of folly.

Wall of Self Reliance

August 21, 2022 • Chris Heller

Are you feeling tired, maybe lacking motivation, or do you find yourself easily frustrated? Did you know these are just a few signs that you may be struggling with burnout? We live in a fast-paced world that preaches a "go and get yours" self-reliance. However, that is far from God's plan for our lives. He does not call us to be self-reliant, He calls us to rely solely on Him. In this message's incredible account, we see Joshua rely on and receive the help of God in such a miraculous fashion. When we ask for God's help, we will see Him do things exceedingly beyond all we could ask or think. The only thing preventing us from experiencing His wonder-working power is our own self-reliance.

Wall of Judgmentalism

August 28, 2022 • Chris Heller

As we enter the final weeks of our Jericho Walls series, we leap eleven chapters filled with the conquering, allotting, and dividing of the promised land among the tribes of Israel. We now find ourselves in Joshua 22. Israel has come to the place where Joshua can permit those tribes wishing to live east of the Jordan their freedom to leave. As they do just that, they make a decision that is perceived incorrectly, which immediately leads to conflict. In this message we will learn how to navigate conflict, extend grace, and - as far as it depends on us - live at peace with everyone. Let’s knock down the dividing wall of judgmentalism.

Wall of Commitment

September 4, 2022 • Chris Heller

This Sunday, we will conclude our Jericho Walls series in Joshua chapters 23-24. Joshua is nearing the end of his life, and he desires to impart to Israel his vision for their future. Join us this week as we reflect on one of the most powerful verses in all of scripture. “Choose ye this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) It will be a very fitting sermon as we look forward to our first Sunday as Renew Bible Church of Perkasie.
