Remarkable

The Book of 1 Peter

Remarkable Series Intro

September 5, 2021 • Chris Heller

Regardless of our personal views, we all find ourselves living in a divided society that is being bombarded with fear, intimidation, and ever-present threats to our well-being. The reality is, many of us might feel worried, manipulated, frustrated, and at a loss of what the future may hold. How then shall we live? Scripture’s answer might surprise you. It calls us to live REMARKABLE lives. You’re probably thinking, “Come on! You can’t do that in the midst of health concerns, rumors of wars, and societies raging with division.”  The truth is, what God calls us to will not be easy or natural for most of us, and it certainly won’t be what we see in our culture. But our hope is that in the midst of a society telling us we can’t be REMARKABLE, the church would respond to that challenge with one simple phrase, “Say I won’t!”

Remarkable Hope

September 12, 2021 • Chris Heller

What kind of book would you expect Jesus’ "bulldog of a disciple" to write? Wouldn’t you expect it to be full of bold charges, passionate pleas, even confrontational language? Yet, the first book of Peter embodies a far different tone. With surprising pastoral warmth and theological sweep, we read the guiding words of a man determined to bring a living hope to his audience, despite the evil government oppression they were facing.

This message we focus on the remarkable salvation that comes from the faith that believes in Jesus, despite having not yet seen Him.  Come also prepared to investigate the work of the prophets and inquire into the validity of the Hebrew text as we decipher the apologetic importance of the Dead Sea scrolls.

Peter has laid a foundation for his suffering audience that is based on the hope and joy they have in anticipating an inheritance coming to them at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Peter now turns his attention to their specific calling to be unique in 1 Peter 1:13-16. This week, we will truly get to unpack what the remarkable life looks like. We will be challenged to design our lives around our Designer, as we have been called to be unique, to be holy, as He is holy.

Remarkable Foundation

Do we build our house on the rocks or on the sand? The key to stability is having a firm foundation. When our foundation is on Jesus and we anchor ourselves in God’s word, we are strong and prepared the changes that happen around us.

Remarkable Submission

October 17, 2021 • Chris Heller

Peter calls to the church to submit to the authorities over their lives. Nero is a pagan ruler enforcing an agenda rooted in evil. What if he is cruel towards them? What if he asks them to do something they feel is wrong before the Lord? This message has never been more prevalent to the church in America than today.

Remarkable Marriage

October 24, 2021 • Chris Heller

Peter turns from focusing on the testimony that can come from submitting to governing authorities to the testimony that can come from a God-honoring marriage. We live in a society that does not understand the importance or significance of God’s design in marriage. God has provided marriage as an illustration, that illustration can motivate couples to maintain the submission, honor, respect and love that is to be modeled before the world in a God-honoring marriage relationship.

Remarkable Goodness

Do you find yourself easily angered? Do you find yourself easily offended? Is it hard for you to entrust God with revenge when you see apparent injustices or poor behavior? Peter calls the church to live with remarkable goodness. Specifically, responding with good when treated with evil. The church has such an opportunity during these times to demonstrate something the world will see that demands they ask about the hope we have inside us.

Remarkable Difference

November 7, 2021 • Chris Heller

Are there things that are noticeably different about you? The way you talk, the places you go, the way you react to information? What about in the areas of life where you have chosen to say ‘no’ to what the world would typically say ‘yes’ to? Simply put, do people see a difference in you because you’ve been saved? The remarkable difference Christ can, and even should, make in a life is encouraged. We hope to rekindle some behaviors that are sure to surprise people and make them ask about what has inspired us to be so different.

Remarkable Suffering

November 14, 2021 • Jon Adams

Peter shows us how to react to suffering, how to endure suffering, and most importantly, he teaches us how suffering is actually an opportunity that we can seize. So, whether you’re currently in a season of suffering or not, this text will challenge the way we understand trials and encourage us to be remarkable in our suffering.

Remarkable Church

November 28, 2021 • Chris Heller

This message will reflect on what the church will need to prioritize in order to continue its calling to be remarkable. What could possibly derail the mission? What could be the pitfalls?  What could keep it from the infamous slippery slope?  Are there any warnings it could heed to prevent a crash up ahead? Peter certainly has some advice, especially for his fellow pastors, that we all should listen in on.
