To explore Jesus' teaching regarding the ceremonial law, and how he interacted with the law in respect to Pharisaic traditions.

To analyze Jesus' statement, "upon this rock I will build my church" in linguistic, historical-interpretive, and theological perspectives.

To introduce the student to the professor, Dr. Cara. To introduce the basic design and purposes of the Gospels course.

To introduce foundational theological categories which are used in biblical studies courses. To briefly explain the course textbooks and their aims.

To introduce the fundamental hermeneutical principles implicit in the lectures of this course.
