The prodigal son is a story of the fathers heart for all people! Jesus tells the story of the prodigal son because it relates to the sinners and tax collectors... Jesus then tells the story about the older brother who relates to the pharisees! Both sides are messed up! Both sides desperately need the grace that only the father can provide. The father’s invading grace changes everything!
Grace Invades Performance

In these verses we'll take a closer look at the older brother and see that grace must invade his performance. Where the younger brother's sin led him to self-ruin, the older brother's sin will lead him to self-righteousness. These verses show us a picture of the religious elite that needed grace to invade their public perfection, their private rebellion, and their prideful delusion. At the end of it all we see that the younger brother and the older brother both needed invading grace... and so do we!
