Hospitality through Risk

Ruth 3:1-13

July 8, 2018 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann

Hospitality is risky.

Welcoming guests in your home is not always easy. In fact, most of the time it is hard work and can be a burden. However, showing hospitality is a risk worth taking and a burden worth carrying.

This Sunday we are continuing our summer sermon series through the book of Ruth with the theme of Hospitality as Mission. We will be studying chapter 3, a chapter full of risk. In preparation, take 5 minutes to read, meditate and pray through Ruth 3 and notice the risks that Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz take, while reflecting on what risks you might take by showing hospitality to your neighbors this summer.

I look forward to worshiping with you all and welcoming guests this Sunday!

Hospitality through Redemption

July 15, 2018 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann

Small deaths and little resurrections. Have you ever noticed that hospitality is a gift to both guests and hosts? It involves redemption for everyone. One beautiful outcome of hospitality is that the giver often receives almost more than the one receiving the gift. This Sunday we are going to conclude our four-week summer series on Ruth: Hospitality as Mission by looking specifically at hospitality through the gift of redemption in Ruth chapter 4. In preparation for Sunday, spend 10 minutes reading, meditating, and praying through this concluding chapter and its main theme of redemption. As you do that, please also reflect on the genealogy at the end of the book and why most people think it is the climax of the story. I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday and welcoming our guests! Pastor Adam

Hospitality through Generosity

July 1, 2018 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann

There is an old Irish proverb that says, "It is in the shelter of each other that people live." When have you been given life by someone's shelter and hospitality? How did it feel to receive that form of kindness and love? Can you imagine giving that gift to another person? This Sunday we are continuing our summer sermon series through the book of Ruth with the theme of Hospitality as Mission by looking at Ruth chapter 2. Last week saw that one of the first steps to showing hospitality to our neighbors this summer is through lament. This week we are going to see how we can show hospitality to our neighbors this summer through generosity, and specifically being generous in offering shelter and food to our neighbors. To prepare for Sunday, read, meditate, and pray through Ruth chapter 2 and notice how Boaz shows hospitality toward Ruth by being generous in offering shelter and food to her. I look forward to worshiping with you all and welcoming guests together this Sunday! Pastor Adam

Hospitality through Lament

June 24, 2018 • Rev. Adam Feichtmann

Summer is here! This Sunday we are kicking off our new summer series on the Book of Ruth with the theme of Hospitality as Mission. Ruth is one of the most well-loved stories in the Bible and summer is a perfect time to show hospitality to our neighbors with the long days and countless summer parties/gatherings. To prepare for this new series consider doing two things: 1. Read through the book of Ruth. (It is only 4 chapters and will only take about 10-15 minutes.) 2. Write down a few names of neighbors/acquaintances/friends to whom you can show hospitality this summer and start praying for a specific opportunity. I am looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday! Pastor Adam
