"It is finish." The ancient Greeks boasted of being able to say much in little. This was not the despairing cry of a helpless martyr; it was not an expression of satisfaction that the termination of His sufferings was not reached; it was not the last gasp of worn-out life. It was the declaration of the Redeemer that all that He came to do was done.

Man had done his worst. The One by whom the world was made had come into it, but the world knew him not. The Lord of glory tabernacle among men, but he was not wanted. The eyes they had been blinded saw in Him no beauty that He should be desired. Add his birth there was no room in the inn, which foreshadow the treatment He was to receive at the end of His earthly ministry.
