No doctrine provides more comfort and assurance while at the same time generating so much debate as does the doctrine of election. What does it mean that God has chosen us in Christ before the foundation of the world? Does God choose some people for salvation and condemn others to hell even if they desire to be saved? Paul finishes chapter one focusing on the exceeding greatness of God's power which raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at God's right hand. The conjunctive phrase "And you..." which begins chapter two connects all that is true of Christ at the end of chapter one with all that is true of believers in chapter 2.
