Connecting Sexual Sin and Worldliness

August 13, 2022

Why should Christians be concerned about Babylon’s influence in their lives? Think about it this way: If you have a food allergy but continue to eat the very thing that you’re allergic to, you’re going to constantly battle with problematic symptoms. But you don’t just treat the symptoms while continuing to eat that food. You go straight to the source of the issue. You avoid eating that food and maybe even restructure your whole diet and lifestyle. Sexual sin is, similarly, only a symptom of a much deeper, and often unseen, problem. In order to get rid of it once and for all, it’s source must be cut off and avoided at all costs. And Babylon’s worldly influence is that source and must be relentlessly dealt with in any believer’s life. This connection often remains hidden from the eyes of most believers. So in this interview, we sit down with the Director of Residential Counseling here at Pure Life Ministries. Through his testimony and instruction from the Word of God, he helps explain the relationship between worldliness and sexual sin. We trust this conversation will bring clarity, hope, and a pathway to freedom from Babylon’s wicked influence. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. Continue to look for new episodes every week. We’ll be releasing teachings by Steve Gallagher, along with interviews from the staff of Pure Life Ministries to look at why Babylon is such an important subject for those battling sexual sin. We hope this series will increase your awareness of what’s behind this evil, and how to combat it in your everyday life. Avoiding the Path into Destruction

August 27, 2022

Before the flood, humanity had become intoxicated with evil. The sin and wickedness introduced at the fall had grown exponentially with each successive generation. By the time of Noah, humanity had spiraled so far out of control that all their thoughts and all their feelings were unredeemable. We are not immune to this same spiritual process. Though God has promised all of us salvation through Jesus Christ, this same soul-sickness can easily consume any one of us who would refuse that offer. When we turn from the Lord, we will inevitably begin to plunge into the same darkness which overtook the pre-flood world. In this interview with one of our Residential Program counselors, we discuss the Spiral of Degradation found in Romans 1. We’ll take an in-depth look at each step down that spiral. We’ll also talk about the hope available for anyone who finds themselves on that destructive path. If you desire freedom today, it is still available for you! This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. Identifying the Origins of Our Own Rebellion

September 10, 2022

Can the seed of wickedness, rebellion and perversion truly reside in the heart of someone nurtured in a good environment and surrounded by godly examples? Scripture warns us that it can. We see this clearly in Noah’s son, Ham. He grew up surrounded by the godly influence of his father, and even witnessed sin’s terrifying consequences firsthand in the destruction of mankind in the flood. But despite this, his heart was not set on the Lord like Noah. Ham’s moral character was not something internal, but something based upon his circumstances. This is a story we’ve seen played out countless times in the men who come to us for counseling. A young man is raised in a godly home. He grows up attending a good church, hearing truth. But eventually he grows up and leaves his family’s protection. Soon, he finds himself allured by worldliness and entangled in sin. This is a tragic reality, but one which can be rectified. In this interview, we sit down with Vice President of Discipleship Programs, Ed Buch, and look into different scenarios that can lead someone to believe they are walking in freedom, when in reality are allowing sin to remain untouched and flourishing in their heart. For anyone ensnared by sexual addiction, this video will help you see how you ended up in such a bad place, and how to find your way back out. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. The Theology of Modern Babylon

September 24, 2022

The word “antichrist” typically incites images from an end-times movie and of a world leader set completely against the Christian religion. But as we’ve been learning throughout this series, antichrist isn’t just a person but a spirit. That spirit wants to lead all humanity in rebellion against God. Steve Gallagher joins us in our studio to shed light on some of the specific schemes the spirit of antichrist uses to draw believers away from God. Pastor Steve also gives us some key tools that can help us stay vigilant, alert and unscathed from the enemy’s tactics. This is critical for any professing Christian who finds themselves in bondage to some form of sexual sin, which is so closely tied to the spirit of this world. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. How Our Desires Can Lead Us Into Darkness

October 8, 2022

In the beginning, God created man to dwell in His presence, living entirely for His purpose. But Satan lured humanity away from this noble call by appealing to our desires and brought us into willing rebellion against God. From that point on, every human being was born with the instinct to choose their own way and reject God’s plan for their lives. Many of us who’ve grown up around Christian teaching agree with that intellectually. But we must ask ourselves how deep does that understanding go? Do we really comprehend that the desires we experience and the choices we make every day are leading us somewhere? Is it real to us that if we aren’t careful, we could easily stray from God’s presence? Three of our staff took time to study through Ephesians 4:17-24, and in this interview they sit down to talk about what they learned. They also share how the enemy used their desires to blind them and lead them away from God. We hope this discussion will inspire all true believers to continue to fight against their former passions and to grow deeper in their fellowship with the Lord. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. Do Not Love the World

October 22, 2022

In this interview, Nate and Ken sat down in our studio to discuss chapter two of John’s first epistle. Their hope was to gain a greater understanding of what the “world system” is and how it impacts each of our lives. And as they took a look at what the Word of God has to say, they discovered that the spirit of the world infiltrates our lives much more broadly, and much more subtly than many of us realize. We hope that this discussion will challenge you to consider carefully the warnings of Scripture and that you will heed the call to keep yourself unstained from the world. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. Wisdom Will Deliver You From Corruption

November 5, 2022

In Episode 7, Part 1, we established how Satan uses the allurements of his world system to play on our desires. He does this in order to break our fellowship with God and bring us into alignment with his wicked way of thinking. In Episode 7, Part 2, we look at the way to overcome that ever-present threat by being filled with godly wisdom. Wisdom from above involves making decisions in our lives based on God’s standard of right and wrong. If God’s way of thinking is our foundation, then Satan will not be able to get control of our hearts. He can’t manipulate us through our desires when something better than our unreliable emotions defines our actions. This may have been what Solomon was talking about when he said, “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” – Proverbs 28:26 (ESV) Today, Nate Danser and Ed Buch sit down to talk about the topic of wisdom, using James 1 as a launching point for their discussion. If you need deliverance from spiritual strongholds and addiction, we hope this interview will encourage you to start seeking out godly wisdom. This series is based on the book Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God’s People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher. You can find out more about that book by visiting our bookstore. Owning the Truth About Yourself

November 19, 2022

One of man’s natural responses to his fallen condition is to blame God for his sinful choices. We see this going all the way back to Genesis 3 when Adam blamed God for what he had done. But we don’t usually say it as plainly as Adam did. We usually shift the blame onto the Lord in more subtle ways. For instance, many who are trying to break free from addiction often say that they have tried everything and still can’t get free. But this is just a sly way of saying that God hasn’t fulfilled His end of the bargain. We know from Scripture that this is not true about God’s character. He always fulfils His promises. So what’s really missing in our lives if we aren’t seeing the freedom and victory we are hoping for? In this interview, we take a look at James 1 and the vital truths it contains for men in sexual sin.

Throwing Off the Shackles of Pride

December 3, 2022

Satan has built a kingdom in this world that fosters mankind’s inclination towards pride. So, the more we live in step with this world system, the more we risk being polluted by its toxic influence. So for those who choose to enter the Kingdom of God, there must be a new way of life that takes over their inside world. That means that the old prideful nature must be torn down. What’s it look like for God to dismantle our pride and teach us to be humble like He is? That’s the subject of this discussion. As you listen to Nate, Gabe and Ken’s personal testimonies, you’ll learn that it is a difficult process, but that it is not one you have to go through alone.

Reviving a Lost Passion for God

December 17, 2022

Having been saved during a powerful revival in the 1970’s, Steve Gallagher has personally watched a church on fire for God begin to atrophy spiritually. This has left today’s church filled with many who don’t care much at all about the things of God. So, in this episode of our series, “Babylon: The Seat of Satan’s Power,” Nate Danser sits down with Pastor Steve to discuss how the spirit of Babylon has contributed to this spiritual decline and what we must do as individuals to cultivate a personal fervor and devotion for God.

How False Doctrine Corrupts Your Faith

January 7, 2023

When a church culture is compromised enough that false teachers can thrive inside of its system, this will undoubtedly affect people in their daily lives. You see, Jesus said that when we continue in His Word that we will know the truth, and that the truth would liberate us. And so the converse is also true. Without the truth, we will not be liberated. And by definition, false teachers do not offer the truth of God to people, not in its purity. And so people are left bound in slavery to their sins. In this episode, Nate sits down with Patrick and Jon to discuss how this played out in their lives, and how it was that God helped bring them out of that system.

Combatting the Effects of a Frantic Lifestyle

January 28, 2023

Satan wants you to focus on the things the world has to offer you instead of on God and His life-giving Spirit. One of the ways he keeps your attention on that Babylonian system is by fostering a frantic lifestyle, constantly going from one thing to the next. This is so much a part of our 21st century culture that even Christians have fallen victim to this scheme and opened the door to sinful habits and attitudes in the church. Two of our counselors, Ken and Trey, join Nate in this interview to discuss the effects of this lifestyle and how to escape it.

Redeeming Your Life from Social Media's Grip

February 11, 2023

We continue our discussion on the role social media plays in the Babylonian system in this week’s interview. Nate sits down with Pure Life counselor, Trey Best, who has experienced first-hand the Spirit-quenching effects of social media. He discusses how various media platforms helped foster sexual sin in his life, and what it took for God to free him from its addictive nature.
