Leading and Learning Pilgrimage

May 29, 7:30am - June 1, 2025 2:00pm
5 spots remaining

I am so pleased to announce a new trip we are taking this summer. One of the commitments of the youth ministry at Pulaski Heights is preparing our young people to be faithful Christian leaders in a complex world. May 29-June 1 we will be taking a road trip to Alabama, Tennessee, and around Little Rock to learn about the history of civil rights and racism in the US. This will be a small, intimate trip of 13 students and 2-3 adults. We'll be exploring this history at nationally recognized museums, staying at local United Methodist Churches, and having tender and empowering conversations about how to be an inclusive and informed Christian leader in our own communities and schools.

This commitment is aligned with the mission of the United Methodist Church to raise life-long learners and leaders committed to the inclusivity and community connection of local churches. Little Rock is a unique environment with our history, the structure of our city and its zoning, and the complexity of school choices our families face.

In addition to some heavier conversations, we'll be having some fun cultural experiences in the cities where we are stopping (Birmingham, Montgomery, Memphis, and Little Rock.) With the help of the PHUMC Foundation, the flat fee for this trip is $100. Scholarships are available. This experience is for 8th thru 12th graders (grade for the current academic year 2024-2025).

I am so excited to take this road trip with youth interested in this type of learning. I anticipate it will be a formative and fun experience.

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions, I would love to share more about this incredible learning experience for our 8th-12th graders.
