The Doctrine of Baptisms (PT1)

June 26, 2024 • Tim Oldfield • Hebrews 6:1–2

INTRODUCTION

In dealing with the Doctrine of Baptisms there are two very important points

that must be established. First of all, we must understand the meaning of the

word “baptism.”  [Baptism = (Baptismos) = Baptisms, washing. This word           comes from the word Baptizo [to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to    submerge, to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe to overwhelm].

Secondly, we must realize the meaning of two important passages of Scripture:

*Ephesians 4:4-6 …Most students of the Bible understand that the Scripture      speaks of more than one baptism (i.e., water, Holy Ghost, fire...etc.). It is most   important, when considering this subject, to realize that there is one body...      having many members...and we are baptized into one body.

*I Corinthians 12:12-14...So there is one baptism into only one body, however, within that body there are other baptisms we encounter during our growth            in Him. Let’s consider the “Doctrine of Baptisms.”

I.   THE BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE

III.   THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST

              A.   The “Putting On.”

                        1.  The Promise. Luke 24:49...Joel 2:28-29, Proverbs 1:23, Ezekiel 36:27,

     Hosea 6:3, Isaiah 28:9-12, Isaiah 44:3, John 14:15-16, John 7:37-39
