Outside The Box: Part One

We have become a culture of people dependent on speed, comfort, convenience, and routine. We live in a world of big box stores and one-stop shopping. In some ways, this can be a good thing, but having this mindset can negatively influence our faith and the relationships we have with others. The more streamlined our lives become and the more we settle into the comfort of the routine, the greater the chances that what happens inside this box of church on Sundays will stay here. But, as believers, we were meant to think and live outside the box. The church was birthed, in part, to be active in the world around us. Beyond our walls is a world in need and the needs are great, and the needs are many. God is currently on a mission- to redeem the earth. God has written each one of us into that same mission. The first step in getting outside our box is understanding what’s in it. We must be aware of the gifts and talents God has equipped us with and begin to explore ways we can use them to serve others.

Outside The Box: Part Two

Our natural inclination is to focus on our weaknesses, be overcome by our insecurities or enable fear to halt us in our tracks. We are so terrified of making a mistake or misinterpreting God’s will for our lives, that we do nothing. What we fail to realize is that by doing nothing we are already making a huge mistake. We’ve been given everything we need to go out and be a light in this world. EVERYTHING. We just have to be willing to do something. God is encouraging each one of us to lay down our insecurities and fears of failure, and instead, work out what is already inside of us. We have to be willing to do something with what we have right where we are.
