Waiting for something we really want is hard. We’ll often take shortcuts because we’re trying to skip the waiting if at all possible. Normally, when we’re waiting, we’re not waiting on God, we’re waiting on ourselves, or our circumstances to change. We look around wondering what is blocking or holding up our progress. If we’re not careful we will miss out on something really special if we’re always trying to “hurry things up.” The discipline of waiting is an important part of life. It’s where we learn to trust and display faith. It’s where we come to the end of ourselves. During these times, whether we realize it or not, God is posturing himself to help when He hears our cry. Sometimes God says, “Hang on” so that we can learn how to “hold on.”

The words we speak have serious implications. Our words may be small, but they hold incredible power. They can build up and tear down. What comes out of our mouth brings healing or undermines our connections with others. Our words can help as well as hurt. Each word we speak moves our life in a particular direction. Taming our tongue is a lifelong journey. We cannot control our words in the moment, but we can learn to change our words over time. It involves checking our heart, thinking about our thoughts, and slowing our speech. If we can control our words, we can control our life.

When someone has been given much, much will be required in return. The weight a statement like that brings only grows larger when we consider that as Christ followers, we carry the integrity and image of His love wherever we go. God expects us to reflect and represent Him by using what we have to bless others. We reflect His heart the most when we love and serve those around us.

A Thousand Little Things: Part Three

Faithfulness in little things is indeed a BIG thing to God. When we offer what little we have in the service of God, we will be blown away watching what He does with it. God is in the business of making much out of little; we just have to lean in and trust Him with those things. Investing in others is an investment in our transformation. By giving ourselves away, we gain so much more. We catch a glimpse of God’s heart while He transforms our own.
