Deep Truths from a Whale of a Ride

When God asks something of us that we don’t like or don’t understand what our default mode of operation? Ignore Him? Run from Him? Hide from Him? Be angry with Him? Try to ‘kill Him off by declaring our allegiance to world where there is no God’? That is, by refusing to recognize Him as even existing we try to gain control over our total destiny. We want to be large and in charge don’t we?

A Patriot’s Problem with the Grace and Mercy of God

Jonah lived in a time when he truly hoped that the assyrians would be smote[d] by God. Jonah hoped that God would go all ‘Sodom and Gomorrah’ on the evil empire and especially Nineveh and rain down hell fire and brimstone and burn them to charcoal remnants or hollow lava statues. It’s certainly what Jonah wanted to see done to the Assyrians and especially to Nineveh. He prayed for their demise and he despised them more than he loved his own life. His nationalism became a blinding idol that demanded the sacrifice of the Assyrian enemy – even innocent children and puppies. Join us Sundays at 9:30 and 11 AM for worship!
