Jesus has spent the last three years of His life and ministry proclaiming good news, healing the sick, and casting out demons. He has made declaration after declaration (in word and deed) that He is the prophesied Messiah, the King of the Kingdom of Heaven, and God in the flesh. Jesus has done some pretty dramatic things to emphasize He is who He says He is, to include: Raising the dead to life, riding into Jerusalem on a donkey’s colt, and (as we’ll see in today’s text – Matthew 21:12-27) removing moneychangers from the temple complex in righteous violence. The religious rulers, internally enraged, want to bottom line the whole situation. So, they ask Jesus, “By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?”
