Today we arrive at one of the most important sections in all of Matthew – Matthew 16:13-28. In many ways, this is the crescendo of Matthew, the climax of the book. Everything that we have studied and examined up to this point culminates right here. In this section, the identity of Jesus is clearly verbalized and the mission of Jesus is plainly revealed. This section also ends with a call to follow Jesus, a call that demands self-denial, death row, and unquestioned obedience.
