THE BAPTISM OF OUR LORD

Today we celebrate the baptism of our Lord, Jesus. We do this every year to celebrate His baptism. Why did Jesus need to get baptized if he is sinless? Jesus got baptized to identify with us fully. So today, we celebrate Jesus fully identifying with us. Today we also celebrate our baptism – just as Jesus identified with us, we identify with Him. We become part of God’s family. What’s it mean to be part of a family? What’s the difference with us being part of God’s family? It is amazing. It won’t break up; it is good; it is forever. Some of our earth families aren’t so good – sadly, we find abuse, divorce, discouragement, arguments, strife, making us feel less than, and more. Even when we look at being part of God’s family on earth – the church – it is far from perfect. But in heaven, it will be.
