The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is based on an old traditional service. We hear God’s word as it comes to us from the Old and New Testaments, through the prophets and Gospel-writers. Over and over, we hear the good news of Christ’s birth and respond with carols of praise. There is no sermon in this service — God’s word speaks for itself, and more powerfully than any human words.
