In our first lesson today from Numbers, we read that Moses wasn’t worried about who got the credit—he just wished that everybody could be a prophet of the Lord and that God would fill all the people with the Holy Spirit. (Because a win was a win for the whole team.) Similarly, in today’s Gospel, John tells Jesus that someone was casting out demons in Jesus’ name, but he wasn’t part of their group. But Jesus said, “Do not stop him; for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. Whoever is not against us is for us.” In other words, a win is a win for the whole team.
