TRADITIONAL WORSHIP | SEPTEMBER 19

September 19, 2021 • Mark 9:30–37

In today's Gospel, the disciples have been arguing while on their way with Jesus to Capernaum. When they finally got there and went into the house, Jesus asked them what they were going on about, and they all clammed up. Because they were probably embarrassed, they had been arguing over who was the greatest disciple. And he said, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and a servant of all." I bet that took some of the wind out of their sails. Imagine that. It seems like an upside-down way of thinking. Whoever wants to be first must be last. Whoever wants to be first must be a servant. It seems that the economy of heaven is really different from the economy of the earth.
