Is faith simply believing a certain way? Can I ever be really sure that I have a saving, genuine faith, or will I always wonder whether I’m an imposter? Can I simply “follow my heart” into knowing what God expects? The book of James was written in order to help us examine our lives, warning us that the heart is easily deceived. It shows us how we can develop an authentic faith that transcends circumstance. As we seek to understand our story as part of God’s narrative for our lives, James helps us discover that the evidence for genuine faith comes not from what we feel, but in allowing our head, heart, and hands to be transformed in a way that leads to action.
