Questioning Christianity

How Can You Say There Is Only One True Faith? - Questioning Christianity - Nate Miller

October 8, 2023 • Nate Miller • John 14:6

Christianity claims to be the only true way to God. Isn’t that prideful to say? In this week’s message, Nate Miller addresses the accusations against Christianity’s claim of being the only true faith. As Christians, we believe the Bible in which Jesus Himself claims “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me” in John 14:6. Many believe that all roads of faith lead to the same higher deity. But this cannot be true! Truth is not subjective. Truth is truth. When looking at the most popular world religions, they are not congruent. They all believe different things about who Jesus was and what His life accomplished. As Christians, we know that Jesus was not just a good teacher, guru, or prophet. He is the Son of God who lived a perfect life, died a death that we deserved and was raised to life, conquering death and sin forever. Our hope is in Jesus and through Him is truly the only way to know God. John 14:6 You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 9am and 11am CST every Sunday morning. Isn't Christianity's View on Sex Outdated? - Questioning Christianity - Brian Barr

October 1, 2023 • Brian Barr • 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

In a cultural moment that encourages sexual freedom, many would say that Christianity’s view of sexuality is oppressive. Should sex really be limited to within the confines of a marriage between a husband and a wife? This week, Brian Barr continued in our Questioning Christianity series looking at the Biblical view of sexuality. The Bible is not anti-sex, but when it’s used outside of God’s design, it brings harm and lasting consequences. Our culture promotes casual hook-ups, pornography, and cohabitation, but there are massive problems with this sexual ethic that leads to selfishness and using others for one’s own satisfaction. As followers of Jesus, we are called to lay our own lives down for others and to live for their benefit. This can only be done when we submit ourselves whole heartedly to God and surrender to living our lives according to His ways - even in our sexuality. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 9am and 11am CST every Sunday morning. Hasn't Science Disproved Christianity? - Questioning Christianity - Chris Nagel

September 24, 2023 • Chris Nagel • Romans 1:18–23

Aren’t Christianity and Science incompatible? Chris Nagel continued in our Questioning Christianity series this week looking at the question, “Hasn't science disproved Christianity?” Cultural thought is that when you come to Christianity, you have to deny much of modern scientific discovery and leave your brain at the door. But the opposite is true! Christianity and science are complementary! Christianity actually gives a rational basis for science to be possible. God has made Himself known to us through the things He has made. Many allow willful blindness to prevent them from knowing God through scientific discoveries, but God is calling people to open their eyes to see the glory of God and to transfer allegiance from man’s truth to God’s truth. How Does a Loving God Allow Suffering? - Questioning Christianity - Jeremy Little

September 17, 2023 • Jeremy Little • 2 Corinthians 4:8–10, Isaiah 53:3, Romans 8:18

What is the source of our suffering? And if God is in control, why doesn’t He use his power to end suffering? This week, Jeremy Little continued our series Questioning Christianity looking at how a loving God can allow suffering. The very fact that we are outraged at suffering actually points us to the existence of a God who is the standard of morality and the standard of how things “ought to be”. The Bible teaches us that God is not aloof from our suffering, but has written himself into human history as Jesus Christ who suffered on our behalf. Though we experience suffering because our world is broken by sin, in Jesus our suffering finds a home - a Savior who empathizes with us and who has authority to ultimately deliver us. Like Jesus, we can support others who suffer by empathizing with their pain and also pointing them to the goodness of God who will one day end suffering for His people forever.  2 Corinthians 4:8-10; Isaiah 53:3; Romans 8:18 You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 9am and 11am CST every Sunday morning. Isn't Christianity Irrelevant? - Questioning Christianity - Brian Barr

September 10, 2023 • Brian Barr • Matthew 13:31–33

Isn’t Christianity a dying religion? Does Christianity really benefit the world? In this week's message, Brian Barr continued our series, Questioning Christianity, by presenting a big picture of global Christianity today. While many claim that the Christian faith is dying, the research disagrees. Jesus told his followers that His global movement would start small, but would continue to spread to the ends of the world, and that is exactly what has happened! Christianity is the largest global religion, and it is the most multi-ethnic, multicultural, diverse movement in all of history. Although the media portrays Christians as being largely hypocritical, stats show that Christians far outpace their non-religious peers in generosity, volunteering, adopting, acts of kindness, and much more. Statistical data alone doesn’t prove Christianity to be true, but it shows there is something about Jesus that is different from what the world offers. He really transforms lives. He really is the hope of humanity. He and His movement cannot be easily dismissed as irrelevant. Isn't the Bible Unreliable? - Questioning Christianity - Chris Nagel

September 3, 2023 • Chris Nagel

This week, we kicked off our new sermon series Questioning Christianity. We are living today in a Post-Christian culture where many people are leaving and deconstructing their faith. During the next several weeks, we will evaluate the claims against Christianity and give persuasive reasons for why we believe what we believe and why it’s the best hope for the world!  In today’s message, Chris Nagel evaluates the reliability of the Bible. As followers of Jesus, we treasure Scripture as God’s word, preserved throughout centuries, written to us that we might know and believe in Jesus Christ. That through Him, we would find salvation from our sins and a relationship with God the Father. But how can we be sure that what is included in the Bible was what was originally written? How can we be confident that the Bible is an accurate account and not just a legend? Join us as we dig into these questions and treasure the beauty of Scripture.
