A Better Way

March 1, 2020 • Dr. Carlo Serrano • Colossians 3:18–25, Colossians 4:1–6, Matthew 12:25

So many people try to live with conflicting values, and it causes a great deal of stress. Life is hard and that’s not a bad thing. Good things can actually come from hard times. However, there is a way to live and work that makes it easier to navigate those tough times and more importantly, there is a way that sets a great example for others to see. It is not the way of conflict, drama, division, outrage, or politics. It’s the way of Jesus and his way is one of togetherness, unity, and the freedom that comes from serving. This is totally counter-cultural but it is revolutionary.

Your New Life

February 23, 2020 • Kim Edmondson • Philippians 4:8, Colossians 2:20, Colossians 3:1–17, 1 Peter 1:3–4, Hebrews 12:1–2

As we continue on in our study of the book of Colossians and learning that Jesus truly is the Greatest of All Time, Paul is calling on the believers in Colossae to do something new. Staying where they’ve been—living the same ole way—is no longer an option. He says it’s time to live the NEW LIFE they have in Christ.

Freedom From Religion

February 16, 2020 • Dr. Carlo Serrano • Colossians 2:8–23, Matthew 11:28–30

An overemphasis on the rules can lead to distraction. Nowhere is this truer than when it comes to religion. In fact, some of you are skeptical about this Jesus stuff because you do not want to deal with all of the rules. You left the church 10 years ago because of all of the rules. You don’t believe in God because of all of the rules. What if we told you that the teachings of Jesus and his earliest followers flip all of that upside down? What if we told you that what makes Jesus great is that he came to fulfill all of the rules of religion? What if we told you that following Jesus leads to freedom, not restriction?

Roots

February 9, 2020 • Kim Edmondson • Colossians 2:4–10, Jeremiah 17:8, Ephesians 3:17

In the Christian life, we never stand still—we either go forward or gradually slip backward. “Let us go on to maturity!” is the call we must obey (Heb. 6:1, literal translation). The Christian who is not making spiritual progress is an open target for the enemy to attack and destroy.

First Place

February 2, 2020 • Chris Edmondson • Matthew 6:33, Colossians 1:9–18

In the world of sports there is often a debate over who the “greatest of all time” would be in a specific sport. And throughout history, there’s always one. One that rises to the top of the class. One that out-ranks, out-performs, out-shines all the others. One that is the G.O.A.T.: the greatest of all time. Jesus is exactly that—the greatest of all time. Jesus is God who creates and holds the entire world together. And when we give Jesus His proper place in our lives, He will hold our world together as well.
