There are countless studies, polls, podcasts, and discussion about the negative effects of the pressure in our lives. But if we’re not careful, we can start to think that all pressure is bad. But life couldn’t exist without pressure. Our physical body cannot function without pressure: Blood Pressure, Air Pressure in the lungs, Pressure in the Eyes. It is God that uses pressure in our life to form us and make us into what He wants us to be.

THE BIG IDEA: To be shaped by the Potter’s hands, we must surrender.

Power in the Pressure

We’ve all been there. The pressure of difficulty, pain, and hard seasons in our lives. We cannot pretend that there is not a side of pressure that is not just plain hard. Loss, betrayal, abandonment, abuse, death, divorce, sickness, loneliness, fear, confusion, anxiety, stress—the list of hard things is long and painful, and a place where most of prefer to spend as little time as possible. Yet God is creating something in our lives. THE BIG IDEA: When we are under great pressure, God gives us His great power.

The Weight of Pressure

Today, we want us to recognize the weight that comes when the vessel that He has formed gets poured into. After all, what good is our empty vessel? He has created us so He can fill us. And not just filled a little bit. Not just a few drops or a couple of ounces. When He fills us, we are filled to the brim with a life that has been formed by the pressure of His hands, and now holds the pressure of the weight of being filled to live life faithfully for Him. THE BIG IDEA: We are called to bear the weight of being fruitful.

Stay in the Pressure

Should I stay, or should I go now? If I go, there will be trouble. And if I stay, it will be double. So come on and let me know. Not only are those the lyrics from a song by the band called “The Clash”, that is also the clash Jesus followers find themselves in. The one where we ask ourselves, “Should we stay or should we go?” Oftentimes the pressure-filled circumstances and situations that God allows us to be placed are on purpose. Many times staying isn’t to benefit us in the here and now, but to save others for eternity. THE BIG IDEA: Jesus followers stay in the pressure.
