Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional is written by Andi Benson.
Our scripture reference for today is from Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
I am a blessed girl. The Lord has given me so much more than I deserve. From my family to my friends, my job, and my church, I could create a never-ending list of all the beautiful gifts God has bestowed over the forty-plus years of my life. At the top of my list of thankfulness would have to be God’s steadfast and faithful love for me.
One of my favorite places in this whole big world is my grandparent’s farm in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Growing up, it was such a treat to spend time there. I visited during holidays, summer breaks, and any other time I was given a chance. My siblings and cousins and I played all day in my Momma Bea’s sandy garden, in the barns full of hay, and in our favorite hiding spot, the musty cellar that smelled weirdly good to me. Before supper, we rode with my Pappy in the hay truck to do chores and feed the cows, and if we were lucky, he would even let us drive. My grandparents gave unconditional love and a beautiful family and heritage that I was proud to be part of. No matter how long I had been away from them, they welcomed me with open arms when I returned. Their love and devotion never changed and always brought total peace.
I am thankful for that earthly example of how God loves me. And as much as they loved me, God loves me more. He loves me so much that he gave his only son to die for my sins. His grace covers me, and no matter how much time has passed or what I have done wrong since our last visit, He welcomes me as His beloved child. This kind of steadfast love given to me each new day brings a heart of pure thankfulness.
I would encourage you to consider how God’s love has made you most thankful.
