Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today, Sharee Gaiser shares her thoughts about worship as a gift of thankfulness.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30 NIV).
“God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24 NIV).
For over 40 years, I have been involved in worship at my local church. My love of worship developed as a young child as I listened to my parents sing hymns around the piano in the evening. My passion grew when I joined a choir and the church worship team.
We are created to worship God. When we worship God, we recognize Him as our Creator, Savior, and King. It’s how we tell God we love Him and are thankful for His love, grace and provision. Worship expresses gratitude for all God has done for us. When we worship, it draws us nearer to God. Welcoming His presence into our midst and worshipping Him is the key to accomplishing the impossible.
Worship is a posture that reflects our state of heart, mind, spirit, and body. Our whole being is called to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24). King David understood that posture outwardly expresses an inward reality.
One day, God asked me: Would you worship me differently if you could see me? I am challenged to consider that God is always present when we worship. How would I worship Him or posture myself if I could visibly see Him? Am I worshipping Him differently on this side of Heaven, and what might be holding me back? Do I feel the pressure to perform, or am I open to posturing myself in a way that honors Him? It can be easy to lose sight of who we worship when we get lost in the mechanics of performing.
I am also thankful that worship is a spiritual weapon. It cuts through the darkest circumstances to speak to our spirit and remind us of God’s truth and power over everything. Many don’t think of worship as a weapon. Instead, they think of it as the music that sets the mood for a church service. Yet, worship is a weapon that unlocks and closes doors, breaks chains, brings healing and deliverance and reminds us that we have victory over the enemy. When we worship, we touch heaven and change earth!
Worship is an act of adoration expressed through prayer, silence and solitude, submission, obedience, acts of service, and the visible fruit of the Spirit. Friends, come, let us worship God together and offer Him our gift of thankfulness and praise!
