Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotional is written by Sarah Goff.
Our scripture reference for today is from Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10 NIV. “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone that falls and has no one to help them up.”
There is nothing more precious than friendship. Christ demonstrated this through the passages of the New Testament. He treasured the people he surrounded himself with and was a beautiful example of how to be a friend.
When I was ten, my family moved, and I was very uncomfortable with this change. The image of my new school left me even more fearful. It was a small two-story building in the middle of the countryside. I didn't know how to get used to these new surroundings or children. It was not the most effortless transition, and some kids were unkind to me. I felt lonely and lost. However, I met three girls who became my best friends, and we are still friends today. Also, my niece, who was more like a sister, lived down the road. We have been through everything together, and I couldn’t have imagined life without her.
A year ago, I created a Facebook page with my friends from Iowa. It's been a fun and excellent way to stay in touch and support each other. We share our daily lives, joys, and struggles. Since then, we have started having a monthly Zoom meeting. It's like we're all in the same room, sharing our laughter and tears.
Two friends recently lost their mothers. Being there for them during this trying time has been a profound privilege. As the scripture states, 'If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.' I want to show the same compassion to my friends, using Jesus as my example.
Ohsofree Ministries is another way for us to support women. It has brought new friendships into my life and provided a platform to encourage others and build them up through Christ, love, and connection.
I am thankful for friendships and encourage you to stay connected because we all need each other.
