Welcome to Freely Speaking, an OHSOFREE devotional ministry where we share our hearts and trust God for transformation.
Today’s devotion was written by Tyla Yauk.
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31 NKJV).
Anxiety has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. A family “curse” if you will. It was passed down from my mother’s mother and her mother. It’s become a running joke in our family. We laugh and call it busyness, but I’ve learned through counseling masking it as something else isn’t helpful. It’s most likely from unhealed trauma like my grandad being killed suddenly. At some point, we pray God will work healing in our family to make a change, reducing our anxiety.
The reference scripture means so much to me because, in my 40 years of life, I don’t think I’ve ever truly waited on the Lord. I’ve always made things work on my own. I am a competent woman with a strong family and a doctorate. I can solve problems. But that doesn’t mean it’s the best way or even in line with God’s will. Most of my decisions come from trying to solve problems that are potentially out of my control. Doing this takes away the intimacy between myself and the Lord. It robs Him of providing His unique solution and the special gift He wanted to give me. It can also make things worse and increase my anxiety.
I experienced my own trauma nearly two years ago and, as a result, had to face this generational curse of anxiety head-on. Consequently, I’ve learned patience and how waiting on the Lord is truly best. Life feels effortless when we ask Him for the things we need and allow Him to work in our lives according to His timing. We soar with His wind beneath our wings; I would much rather live like that.
We thank you, Lord, for your provisions and promises. Today, let's remember the power of prayer and trust in the Lord. Let's hold on to hope and keep our faith strong.
