The world we live in today is full of fakes. Fake news, fake videos, deep fakes, fake people and the list goes on and on. In the Bible, Timothy was dealing with similar issues. The technology that we have obviously wasn't an issue but the world around him was steeped in a culture that was built on pleasure, just like ours. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy, three things that we need to focus on in order to deal with a culture who likes to make up its own reality to fit what they want to be true rather than conforming to the truth of God's Word.
