The Bible promises that God will supply all of our needs (Philippians 4:19), and the story of Elijah gives us a compelling picture of provision. God used unlikely means to provide for Elijah, and also for a widow who was nearly at the end of her rope.

When you make that commitment, you’ll find that, like Elijah, you’ll be blessed.

If you love someone, if you have an intimate friendship with them, it’s easy to talk with them. Conversation is not a burden, but something you enjoy and to which you look forward. Prayer is simply that same kind of intimate conversation with God. He loves you and wants not only to hear from you, but also to speak to you. Just like Elijah -when you pray, He will guide you and begin to change you into someone who wants what He wants, who understands and desires to do His will.

Have you ever felt ready to give up? Like you simply just wanted to lie down and quit? Sometimes our physical needs such as hunger or exhaustion can cause us to lose not only our physical energy but our mental and spiritual energy as well—as happened to Elijah. When physical exhaustion engulfs our emotional and spiritual condition, it makes us vulnerable to satanic attacks that can lead to discouragement. The good news is, you’re not alone. The even better news is that God wants to encourage you and help you. His strength is sufficient when your strength is gone.

What does it mean to leave a legacy? Many of us think of our children and grandchildren, and the notion of leaving them an inheritance. Others may think of building a business, or influencing others. Our legacy is connected to the stewardship of our lives—how we order our life under God so that it is fruitful and productive. Elijah was a man who feared the Lord, so he arranged his life to follow after God—to walk in His ways. Elisha observed this and wanted this same legacy. The celebration of Independence Day in our nation each year ushers in a time of rest, enjoyment, great food and even greater displays of fireworks. All across America you can witness the elaborate display of our country's independence. "Overcomers" is about another type of independence. Spiritual independence. If you have named the name of Christ as your only God and Savior, you have declared independence from the rule of sin and Satan over your life. You have been set free. Even though you have been legally set free from the reign of sin in your life, Satan does not want you to be experientially set free. Overcomers | Part 2

The first church addressed in our study on overcomers is the church at Ephesus. In many ways, you could say that Ephesus Bible Fellowship had a lot going on. They were doing many things right. However, there was one thing they were not doing well at all. Jesus tells us what it is in verse 4, “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” You can’t get any more straightforward than that: They had left their first love. God was no longer their priority.

As Believers in Christ, we are overcomers, but we need to adopt the right perspective on Satan’s attempts to harm and test us. Satan may be telling us that he plans to steal from us, kill us and destroy us (John 10:10)—but when he does, remember that God is greater than our enemy. The beautiful thing about being a Believer in Christ is that God is crafty enough to allow Satan to believe he is throwing us to our demise, but he is actually throwing us straight into God’s hands—even in the midst of suffering. To maximize productivity in business, you should decrease your level of tolerance for error. In being human, we will never perfectly reach that but if it is the goal, it will set your business and product apart. And if this is true in business or even basketball, manufacturing or flying—why do we question it when it comes to the God who made it all? Is God to expect less from you and me, and from His church? That’s the message that Jesus brings to the church of Thyatira. He wants them to know that in order for them to live as overcomers both on earth and for eternity, they will need to have zero tolerance towards sin. We should never settle for our own sins or the sins of others.
