The Gospel of Matthew was written to a Jewish audience looking for the promised Messiah (King). Every Jew wanted an earthly King who would liberate Israel from the rule of the Roman empire. However, that’s not who God sent. God knows that every person desperately needs a King who can liberate them from the rule of sin and death. That’s why He sent Jesus.
