The Gospel of Matthew was written to a Jewish audience looking for the promised Messiah (King). Every Jew wanted an earthly King who would liberate Israel from the rule of the Roman empire. However, that’s not who God sent. God knows that every person desperately needs a King who can liberate them from the rule of sin and death. That’s why He sent Jesus.

Each of the gospel writers treated the birth of Jesus differently. In fact one (Mark) doesn't even make mention of Jesus' birth. Each author had a different audience in mind when he penned his gospel. In Part Three of this series, Mike Linch shares who Luke was speaking to when he wrote about Jesus' birth, and what he wanted to make sure they understood.
