It's Covenant Renewal Sunday! This is the Sunday every year where Northstar "kicks out" all of its members in order for them to have a chance to reflect on and consider their membership at Northstar seriously. Being a member of a local church should be a normative thing for a Christian, but many people seem to think that they can just "float" in and out without ever actually committing to a local body of believers. In this message, Jeff shows how Scripture clearly points to the idea of a local church, and commands that Christians would not just join a church, but invest in that church.

Every year we 'Kick-out' all of our members and reevaluate what it means to be a member of Northstar Church. We take a look at our membership covenant and walk through the different responsibilities that come with joining Northstar. We also have an r12 series share time, giving our congregation a time to talk about how our previous series impacted them.

Our Covenant Renewal Sunday focused on the theme of “Wake Up” from Ephesians 5:1-15. The days we live in are significant, and the church must understand and know doctrine; and how to live and speak and relate - in order to know how to stand strong, make disciples, live with joy and boldness and humility in a changing culture.

Too often we get distracted - even by Jesus Himself, as we seek to control Him or get His attention. We get absorbed in our needs/problems. But Jesus was consistently turning His disciples’ attention away from themselves to the Father and to His mission. Jeff describes why why membership is biblically-based, spiritually encouraging, socially necessary, and mission-centered.

Membership matters. Church membership really is about adoring and expressing devotion to God and to others. Paul discusses the importance of a church body in how they must function together in 1 Corinthians 12, as if one part of the body suffers, every part suffers, but if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Jeff dives deeper into the significance of the church body and the specifics of what it means to be a member at Northstar.
