1 John The Importance of Loving Each Other

August 18, 2024 • JJ Cox • 1 John 2:3–14

·       As we dive back into 1 John this morning, let’s do a quick recap of what we’ve looked at so far as John is writing to this group of churches that are popping up around Ephesus.

o   John has made clear that God is eternal in His power which allows us to trust Him at all times and gives us eternal life as well.

o   John talks to us about how personal Jesus is and how we can hear from Him, see Him in the lives of those that follow Him, gaze at Him for deeper understanding, and even put hands and feet to His ministry.

o   John says that God is the basis for fellowship through Jesus because Jesus changed the narrative of what a Godly relationship looked like.

o   And we have complete joy in Christ when we share who He is with others.

o   We know who He is because God’s character is light.  In Him there is no darkness, which means that He wants us to know Him completely.

o   We cannot completely know God and have an opposing life to who He is.  We deceive ourselves when we try to do that and we make God out to be a liar.

o   And then last week we looked at the truth that Jesus is the atonement for our sins and that He is the One who speaks to the Father on our behalf.  We miss out on the fullness of Him when we attempt to handle sin on our own.
