Did you ever play hide and seek as a kid, only to discover as a seeker that one or more of the hiders quit playing the game and were somewhere else doing something else - making them impossible to find? Feels like being lied to, doesn't it? Job desperately wants to discover what is true and separate it from what is a lie. In a world where truth is a personally held thing what the book of Job has to communicate to us this weekend is very important and even life changing. Hope to see you Sunday!

Have you ever wondered why good things happen to bad people?  Like Job, while we may be innocent of some specific sins that others try to hold us to, the truth is none of us are completely innocent.  Please join me this Sunday as we unpack a conversation between Job and his friend Zophar that speaks directly to this point.

What was the compelling reason you accepted Jesus? This question sounds a bit odd, but there is a really good reason for asking it. Our perception of God effects everything we do and changes how we relate to others. This is exposed very clearly in Job this week. Lets dig in this week as we discover the difference between the motivations of Bildad and Job and how this speaks volumes to us, about us.

The book of James tells us that Teachers (Leaders) will be judged more strictly by the Father. There is good reason for that, and we see it played out on the news regularly when church leaders fail to live the way of Jesus. But spiritual abuse happens far more frequently than hits the news, and by people who aren't in leadership. So how do we change that? Lets see what Job has to show us next!!!

Stubbornness and I have a long history. On one hand stubbornness isn't a virtue but if lived out with different motivations morphs into steadfastness which very much is. Paul tells us to stand firm in our faith in Ephesians, and Job gives us similar life lessons in standing up to domineering and demanding people in our lives and in the church. Engage with me in Job as we learn proper boundaries and fences for allowing others to interact with us.

"What did I do to deserve this?" Have you ever asked that question of God? It certainly is a common question (even in church), but it frames our relationship to God in a way that is quite detrimental. Job's friend Eliphaz relates to God from this common perspective and Job's response gives us a lot of ammunition for when that question is the one taking up space in our minds.

Have you ever faced a "dark night of the soul"? A time of life where your despair was so great that you questioned if you even wanted to be alive? Job shares this kind of moment and there is much that we can learn from him. What do we hold onto when everything has slipped through our fingers and we are left with brokenness?

It is said that we are at our most real when life crumbles around us. It is amazing the emotions or reactions that come out of us when we are desperate - things that surprise us (often not in a good way). The exposing of who we really are is a key moment because it offers clarity to us, in a way that nothing else can and can be used as a catalyst for change - if we let God use it. As we launch into the book of Job, we get to start unpacking the meaning of suffering, and the role it plays in our lives.
