In one of His most renowned parables, Jesus contrasts two builders: one wise, who constructs his house on a solid rock foundation, and one foolish, who builds on shifting sand. Through this vivid imagery in Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus imparts a critical lesson about the importance of not just hearing His words but acting on them. As we delve into this parable, we will explore the significant differences between these two builders, their homes, and the outcomes of their choices. Despite the familiarity of this story, it is crucial to carefully consider its profound implications on how we build our lives and face the inevitable storms of life. We will examine the critical difference in outcomes—stemming from whether one acts upon or merely hears Jesus' teachings—and the ultimate responsibility that comes with the revelation of His word.
Good News! Jesus Is Our Advocate
July 7, 2024 • Kyle Caudell • 1 John 2:1–6
In our journey of faith, doubts about our salvation can arise, often fueled by Satan's deceptive tactics. He can lead us to false conclusions based on our circumstances or convince us that our struggles with sin are unique to unbelievers. Regarding salvation and assurance, people fall into three categories: those who are secure but not sure, those who are "sure" but not secure, and those who are both sure and secure. To address these doubts and strengthen our assurance, we turn to 1 John 2:1-6, where we learn that we can be confident in our salvation because of who advocates for it—Jesus Christ the righteous one, who is our atoning sacrifice. Furthermore, our confidence is bolstered by who accomplished our salvation—Christ Himself—and by who completes it, as evidenced by our obedience to His commands. Through these truths, we can find reassurance in the unwavering security and certainty of our salvation in Christ.
Good News! Jesus Gives Amazing Grace
June 30, 2024 • Stephen Rollins • John 1:1, John 1:9–18
Today, we delve into the profound truth of our need for grace and the incredible revelation of grace through Jesus Christ, as outlined in John 1:1-5, 9-18. Beginning with the tragic fall of humanity in Genesis, where Adam and Eve's disobedience introduced sin and death into the world (Genesis 2:15-17; 3:4-6; Romans 5:12), we recognize the deep-rooted need for divine grace. Despite this, a glimmer of hope is found in God's promise of redemption (Genesis 3:15). This promise comes to fruition in the person of Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, who dwelt among us and revealed the fullness of God's grace and truth (John 1:1-5, 14). Jesus, the creator and sustainer of all life, brought light into the darkness and offered a way for humanity to be reconciled with God. As we explore these passages, let us embrace the super-abundant grace that flows from Christ, a grace that not only redeems but sustains and transforms us, leading us to eternal life (Romans 5:15-21).
Good News! Jesus Pursues Lost Sheep
June 23, 2024 • Kyle Caudell • Luke 15:1–7
In today's sermon, we will reflect on the profound parable of the lost sheep from Luke 15:1-7, where Jesus underscores the boundless grace and relentless pursuit of God for those who have strayed. We are reminded that there will always be sheep who wander away, as all humanity has been endowed with the knowledge of God yet often turns away (Romans 1:20-21). Despite this tendency to stray, we are blessed with a Good Shepherd who fervently pursues His lost sheep, demonstrating His unwavering commitment to seek and save the lost (Luke 15:4-5, Luke 19:10). Moreover, the joy in heaven over a repentant sinner is immense, surpassing the satisfaction in the righteousness of those who have not strayed, highlighting the extraordinary celebration that occurs when a lost soul is brought back to the fold (Luke 15:6-7). As we delve into this message, let us be inspired by the relentless love of our Shepherd and the rejoicing that follows every act of redemption.
