The Power of the Resurrection

April 17, 2022 • Pastor Dale

Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are bookends to the most significant event in human history - the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. To Jewish leaders, Jesus was a heretic and blasphemer. To Roman officials, Jesus was a nuisance - if not a threat - to their heavy-handed control over people. Even His own disciples had misguided notions that Jesus would establish a political coup to overthrow Rome and take back governmental authority.

The Passion of Jesus

Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday are bookends to the most significant event in human history - the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. To Jewish leaders, Jesus was a heretic and blasphemer. To Roman officials, Jesus was a nuisance - if not a threat - to their heavy-handed control over people. Even His own disciples had misguided notions that Jesus would establish a political coup to overthrow Rome and take back governmental authority. Through palm branches and processionals, accusations and accolades, Jesus entered Jerusalem and prepared Himself for the ultimate sacrifice - His life for yours. “Because of the joy awaiting him [you!], he endured the cross (Heb. 12:2).” Death, however, would not have the final word. Jesus’ crucifixion revealed His passion, but His resurrection revealed His power. Jesus’ sacrifice atoned for the sins of humanity. Jesus silenced shame. Jesus defeated darkness. Jesus gives life to the dead and hope to the hopeless. His is a story of passion and power.
