Given the perilous false teaching of Jude’s day, he warns the church divisions but exhorts them to show mercy. Mercy always overpowers evil in the end. His warnings to the church then ring true for the church today. We learn from scripture our susceptibility to live for ourselves instead of Christ and we must guard against those who do so.
