Better Than Better

January 19, 2020 • Bill Borland

What if this year was not just about becoming better, but about becoming greater? What would that kind of change look like? Jesus re-calibrates what greatness looks like and points us in that direction. Moving Forward In God’s economy, last place is the greatest place, serving is greater than being served, and living for others is living like Jesus. That sets a high standard, but one we can all pursue. Every single one of us can be assured of greatness, because we can all put others first. Focus “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.’” Mark 10:43-44

The Banana King

Most of us want this year to be better. But “better” requires a bit of honest and awkward evaluation. So what are you holding onto that’s holding you back? If you’re holding onto something that’s making a monkey out of you, maybe it’s time to let go of the banana and run away! Moving Forward If you really want this year to be better, take this challenge: Ask someone, “Am I holding onto something that’s holding me back? Am I holding onto something that’s holding us back?” In addition to letting go of what’s holding you back, take hold of the one that can bring you back—Jesus. Bible: Romans 6:16-17 1Cor. 6:19,20

How to Have a Better Year Than Last Year

January 5, 2020 • Ken Mitchell

Many of us want this year to be better than last year. We start off with good intentions by making a commitment to improve but inevitably end up not following through. There’s got to be a better way, right? A perfect year may be impossible. But a better year is possible. MOVING FORWARD When God's strength consistently meets our weakness, we grow. By admitting your weakness and asking God for help, this year can be better. Choose someone this week to talk to one-on- one about your area of weakness. Ask them to pray for you as you learn to rely on God’s strength to help you. WEEKLY READING 2 Corinthians 12:1-10
