NCF Sunday Worship

November 6, 2022 • Pastor Bob Becker • Matthew 5:4, Luke 6:21, Psalm 71:19–24, Psalm 119:136–144

There is an Arab proverb which says, "All sunshine makes a desert." Jesus says "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” It is totally opposite from what we think. Our motto is “Don’t worry, be happy!” Jesus does not mean we are blessed when we mourn over the difficulties in our lives. He is not saying that after you come out of church if you are mourning or depressed you are blessed. Jesus is giving us the result of what happens to the poor in spirit who look at the condition of their souls apart from receiving God’s gracious salvation through Jesus Christ. We are blessed when we mourn over our sin and yet “laugh” when Jesus’ righteousness is placed in our account, and we stand justified in the eyes of God the Father.
