Sermon Title: “False Gods Destroy Cultures”

Sermon Summary:

Not all the things we idolize are bad in and of themselves. We can go after a good thing, a gift God has given His creation. But when we prefer it to God, it is an idol. We make the gift more real and more rewarding than the Giver. The worship of idols collapses the greatest of cultures. The Babylonians are an example. They thought they were superior to all and answerable to no one. When God decrees their downfall then they see their religion has no answers and their wealth will be no refuge. Only our God is a refuge and strength to those who serve Him. It is His counsel that shall stand forever.

Sermon Title: “The Anointed One’s Mission" (Pastor Bob) Summary: A church can be a great witness to its community if its members show great joy while living in this modern world with all its trouble and turmoil. As Christians we can lack joy because we have forgotten that Jesus’ mission in our lives and in the lives of others was a liberating mission; a mission that replaced shame with honor not just once but forever in the life of the Christian. Jesus is committed to us based on an everlasting covenant. So much of this world and maybe of our life experience can be summed up by the word desolation. Yet, this Servant of the Lord, this Anointed One, replaces desolation with delight. He can do this forever because he forever makes intercession for us. His hearing and answering our prayers prove it!

Sermon Title: "Renewal Through the Gospel" (Pastor Bob) Summary: Sometimes we think God is indifferent to sin and wrongdoing. Actually, he is displeased with it. He is displeased that there is no justice. We, by nature, suppress the truth. Like in the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life,” every Bedford Falls eventually becomes Pottersville. There is, therefore, no one to intercede to save us, so God’s own arm must bring salvation. Jesus’ breastplate was righteousness, his helmet; salvation. The glory of the Lord has risen upon us. Though the world is covered in darkness, the nations shall come to our light because it is the light of Jesus Christ. The Gospel will go out from the church to all the nations, and they will echo it back to us. Isn’t it amazing that God chose the most unlikely people for greatness; you and me, to magnify His own greatness? Isaiah 60:17 says: “Instead of bronze I will bring gold, and instead of iron I will bring silver; instead of wood, bronze, instead of stones, iron. I will make your overseers peace and your taskmasters righteousness.”
